All plumbers and installers of Gas, LPG and Oil fired boilers or central heating equipment who wish to list their details on the Government-Boiler-Scrappage-Scheme.co.uk web portal MUST first Register and provide full business details, contact details and associated professional qualifications (Gas Safe, OFTEC registration etc) with their listing.

Homeowners and Tenants should check the validity of anyone offering to provide professional services relating to installation, removal or repairs of Gas, LPG or Oil fired equipment. In ALL cases, check that your installer has recent qualifications in energy efficiency.
The Gas Safe Register or OFTEC can confirm this. If the installation is for an oil-fired boiler, an alternative would be to ask your installer if they hold a Certificate in Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating or an equivalent qualification.

What it’s For…
the grant could be used to install or repair Loft Insulation, Draughtproofing, Cavity-Wall Insulation, Hot Water Tank Insulation, Electric, Gas or Oil Central Heating Boilers or Systems (including Repairs), even converting an Open (solid-fuel) Fire to a Glass Fronted fire.

Who it’s For…
Householders with a child under 16, or pregnant women with MAT-B1 (maternity cert.) in receipt of one or more eligable benefits which include: Income Support, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, income based Jobseekers Allowance, Pension Credit or Income Related Employment & Support Allowance.

Householders aged 60 or over in receipt of one or more eligable benefits which include: Income Support, Council Tax Benefit, Housing Benefit, income based Jobseekers Allowance, Pension Credit or Income Related Employment & Support Allowance.

Householders in receipt of one or more Adult Disability Benefits* which include: Working Tax Credit (income under £16,040), Disability Living Allowance*, Child Tax Credit (income under £16,040), Housing Benefit*, Income Support*, Council Tax Benefit*, War Disablement Pension*, Industrial Injuries Benefit* or Attendance Allowance.

But even if…
If you do not receive any of the above benefits, the scheme providers can offer you a full benefit assessment which will establish if you should be entitled to receive any benefits that would qualify you to participate in or from the Warm Front Grant.

The 125,000 £400 rebate vouchers for the Government Boiler Scrappage Scheme have now been snapped-up.
During the Chancellors Budget on Wednesday 24th March 2010 there was no mention of extending the scheme to the other 4 million owners of SEDBUK G rated boilers. Although, some energy companies are still offering incentives to off-set the funding that is no longer available from the UK Government..!!

Figures that have been recently released show that up to the 16th March (2010) 118,785 out of the 125,000 vouchers had already been allocated, with a total of 35,390 new A rated boilers having been fully installed.

According to Lord Hunt (the Energy & Climate Change Minister)…
“The scheme has been a great success and is already helping people cut down on their fuel bills. An A-rated energy efficient boiler can help save around £200 a year off fuel bills and reduce emissions.

The scheme has also provided a much needed boost to England’s plumbers and boiler manufacturers, helping to sustain work for the 130,000 installers and up to 25 UK-based boiler manufacturers throughout the economic recovery.”

So, you want to know if your central heating boiler qualifies for the Governments Boiler Scrappage Scheme Grant via the £400 rebate/ voucher..?

In Brief….

If you plan to change your SEDBUK Band G rated boiler for a SEDBUK Band A rated high-efficiency condensing combi-boiler, whether GAS, LPG or OIL fuelled (or some other form of renewable heat technology, such as Solar or Wind powered), then you should be eligible for the boiler scrappage scheme payment of £400..?

Who and What…?
If you believe that you may be eligible for the £400 grant and you wish to apply or register for the scheme, you must first obtain a quote to supply and fit the new SEDBUK A Band (SAP seasonal efficiency rating of over 90%) central heating boiler from your own nominated Gas Safe or OFTEC registered installer (or other form of renewable heat technology installer!)

When and How…
The £400 cashback vouchers will be issued to successful applicants from the 18th January 2010 onwards. Successful applicants should receive the £400 voucher within 10 days. Vouchers will only be valid for a 12 week period from date of issue. Applicants whose £400 scrappage scheme vouchers have expired – may be able to re-apply, subject to fund availability.

The Energy Rating label enables consumers to compare the energy efficiency of a whole range of products and appliances. The energy rating label can be associated with items such as Central Heating Boilers, Cars, Office Equipment and Electrical Appliances such as Fridges, Freezers, Dishwashers, Washing Machines and even Light Bulbs. All of which are categorised within bands ranging from A-to-G, with A being the most energy efficient, whilst G is classed as the least energy efficient.
Note: Fridge/Freezers have an additional two classes which are the A++ and A+ bands.

Fridges and Freezers
The European energy label on fridges & freezers is, as with other items based on a number range. This is calculated according to the consumption and the compartments’ volume of the electrical appliance. This is an index and is therefore not calculated in kWh.

Dishwashers
The energy efficiency is calculated according to the number of place settings. For the most common size of appliance, the 12 place setting machine the following classes apply. The unit is expressed in kWh per 12 place settings.

WashingMachines
For washing machines the energy efficiency scale is calculated using a cotton cycle at 60°C (140°F) with a maximum declared load. This load is typically 6 kg. The energy efficiency index is in kWh per kilogramme of washing.

Light Bulbs
The European energy label shows the classification of the lightbulb’s electrical consumption relative to a standard (GLS or incandescent) light bulb that produces the same brightness (lumen). Class A & B Energy savers fall in to these categories. They are the most efficient type of light bulb and use up to 80% less energy than standard GLS light bulbs. Class D Mains voltage halogen bulbs usually fall into this category. Class E & F Standard incandescent light bulbs are the least efficient alternatives.

Cars
For cars it is not the electrical efficiency that is indicated on the European energy label, but its carbon dioxide emissions, measured in grammes per kilometre travelled.

The Government is committed to tackling fuel poverty, and believes that energy efficiency measures remain the most sustainable way of lowering fuel bills and providing affordable warmth to those most in need. Warm Front is the Government’s flagship Scheme in tackling fuel poverty. Launched in June of 2000, the Warm Front Scheme has assisted almost two million households.

The Warm Front Scheme is currently (until March 2011) managed by eaga PLC.

Warm Front Scheme Grants Increase from April 2009…
The maximum grant available under the Warm Front Scheme would increase from £2,700 to £3,500 for applicants where gas central heating is required, and from £4,000 to £6,000 for applicants where oil central heating or alternative heating sources are required.

Benefit Entitlement Check…
Each Warm Front Scheme customer is required to complete a Benefit Entitlement Check, after having been assigned their own eaga adviser. The Benefit Entitlement Check short questionnaire can be sent directly to the customer to complete, or it can be completed over the telephone.

A letter and detailed report will then be sent to the customer by the Warm Front Scheme advisor. The report will detail information on any grant or benefits that the customer will be entitled to claim, and any guidance on how to claim them.

Customers then go on to complete claim forms and are put in receipt of the benefits. This stage means that those who had previously missed out on benefits can also return to Warm Front, as they would be eligible for the grants applicable to the Scheme.

Almost a quarter of a million households benefited from the Governments Warm Front Scheme during the period 2008-2009, with almost two million receiving assistance since the Warm Front Scheme began in June 2000 (01/06/2000 To 31/03/2009).

The Governments Boiler Scrappage Scheme – due to start early in 2010, will allow households in England to apply for a maximum grant of £400 to put towards the cost of replacing Boilers with an anticipated SEDBUK energy rating of G. The G rating implies that the boiler efficiency is below seventy percent (70%). The Chancellor Alistair Darling has budgeted a fund of up to £50 million to assist with the boiler replacements in 125,000 homes in England.
